SEGA seems to have realized the value of its great franchises and has made it clear that it wants to bring them back through new games or remakes. While the Sonic series has never been neglected, there are titles that fans want to see return with a remake. Recently, information surfaced that one such remake was already in development, but unfortunately, that's not the case.
This week, it was reported that the sub-series Sonic Heroes would be graced with a remake, specifically the original installment that debuted just over 10 years ago.
The information came from a report by the Brazilian portal Universo Nintendo, which, based on what it had heard from informants like Zippo and Midori, as well as other close sources, stated that SEGA was preparing to have Sonic transition to the Unreal Engine 5 and would do so with a remake of Sonic Heroes.
Specifically, Zippo anticipated that the remake had even recently entered the production phase, to be handled by the Sonic Team. Not only that, but Universo Nintendo detailed that the alleged remake would come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, as well as the successor console to the Nintendo Switch.
Is the Sonic Heroes Remake Already in Production?
This information spread across various sites that assumed this exciting project was underway. However, it was far from reality.
We say this because later, after having confirmed it, one of the sources whose information was used for the report, Midori, clarified the situation and revealed that it was inaccurate information.
In case you missed it: Sonic's latest game sold less than expected, and SEGA blamed Super Mario.
Through Twitter (X), the informant mentioned that SEGA wants to experiment with its franchises on Unreal Engine 5, although that doesn't mean the company would stop using its other engines, such as the Dragon Engine and the Hedgehog Engine 2, in future games.
Most interestingly, after being questioned about it, Midori made it clear that she hasn't heard that SEGA is planning a remake of Sonic Adventure, and regarding the Sonic Heroes remake, the informant stated that it's still not in development or production, but rather SEGA is only considering it, so she doesn't believe the report is correct about its release date being scheduled for 2026 or 2027, as the project might not even come to fruition.
We will keep you informed.
Would you like SEGA to release a remake of Sonic Heroes, or do you have a better candidate?
