Condor: Will the Multiplayer Spin-Off of Control be Free? Remedy Reveals

The cooperative title will be a games-as-a-service, confirmed the company

Thanks to its original concept combining action and paranormal elements, Control was one of the biggest surprises of 2019 and has since sold over 3 million units. Remedy Entertainment plans to expand that universe with a sequel and a multiplayer spin-off.

Recently, the company shared more details about the cooperative project, temporarily titled Project Condor. In their latest financial report, they unveiled the plot synopsis, budget, and business model.

It's worth remembering that the multiplayer title was announced in 2021. At that time, it was a joint effort between Remedy Entertainment and the publisher 505 Games; however, the development studio acquired the franchise rights in a multimillion-dollar deal in 2024. Thus, it's now an in-house project made without third-party intervention.

In their latest annual revenue report, the company shared more information about their upcoming projects. There, they revealed that Project Condor is built on the Northlight Engine and will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC at a date yet to be confirmed. Its budget is €25,000,000 EUR.

Additionally, Remedy Entertainment disclosed more information about the narrative context. Although it's a PvE for up to 4 players, the developers plan to expand the lore of the franchise starring Jesse Faden.

"After the Hiss invasion, the Old House is under lock and key: it's a boiling pot of dangerous and volatile supernatural forces. Trapped inside is the last vestige of the Federal Bureau of Control, which will have to take action and counterattack to regain control. Desperate times call for desperate measures. And everyone is needed," reads the synopsis.

Since Project Condor is a games-as-a-service, many fans hope it will be a free-to-play experience; however, Remedy Entertainment confirmed that it will be a paid title with downloadable content and will be sold at a "fixed-price based on services."

In the report, the company explains that this business model can become a significant revenue source for the future. Titles sold under this format are premium games with an initial lower price but can yield long-term profits through "updates, expansions, and potentially microtransactions."

"For these games, a key differentiator is the post-launch operations phase, aimed at keeping players engaged for years. This model will be used, for example, in Project Condor, a multiplayer spin-off of Control," explained the studio.
