Sources say Microsoft is preparing a portable Xbox, should you believe it?

For months, there has been speculation that Xbox is preparing a portable system. In fact, we know that the company has worked in the past with various prototypes; however, none of them have materialized into an actual project.

A reliable source recently stated that Xbox has not thrown in the towel on the idea of a handheld. This is because it is still working with prototypes and there are some new ones that could become new hardware for the brand in the future.

A portable Xbox is on the way?

Jez Corden, editor of Windows Central and a very reliable source, participated in the most recent edition of the Xbox Two podcast (via Insider Gaming). There he revealed that Microsoft currently has its hands on several prototypes for a portable Xbox. He made 2 important clarifications. The first is that these are recent prototypes. This suggests that the company has not ruled out the possibility of a portable Xbox.

On the other hand, he stated that this is not a cloud-focused device. It is actually a portable hardware to run games natively. Now, he also added that the existence of the new prototypes does not necessarily mean that the system will become a reality.

However, this is not the first time we hear similar information. A few months ago, it was said that Xbox is preparing 2 consoles for the next generation and that one of them will be a handheld PC capable of running its games natively and in the cloud.

Also, it was mentioned that the hardware would have a similar concept to the Switch, as it would bet on the hybrid, it would have a base, a touch screen and integrated controls. Finally, the project is said to be in the hands of the Surface team.

While this is unofficial information that should be considered a rumor, it should be noted that it comes from very good sources. In addition, Xbox has hinted that it is preparing new hardware that could well be portable.
