The Callisto Protocol to Expand with a New Game, but It Is Not a Sequel

Striking Distance Studios is preparing a radically different project from the original title

Today is a fantastic day for fans of the universe created by Striking Distance Studios with The Callisto Protocol, as the KRAFTON-owned studio has just announced that it will expand this franchise with a new game, although it's not The Callisto Protocol 2.

The developer revealed through its social media channels its upcoming game: Project Birdseye, which won't be the sequel to The Callisto Protocol 2 that some fans were expecting, but rather a completely new adventure, very different from the original title, although set in the same universe as the saga.

What is Project Birdseye?

Precisely, the events of Project Birdseye take place in the Black Iron Prison, a significant location from the original title. Additionally, this new experience will serve to expand the original universe but without affecting the other project the studio is developing. According to the official description, Project Birdseye is a "fast-paced action roguelike".

As with any roguelike, losing in a game will be a key part of the experience, as players will have to learn from their mistakes and start a new game, but that doesn't mean they can be reckless, as the elements they encounter will be different due to random generation, meaning the title will have high replayability, with very different playthroughs.

Judging by the reveal trailer, stealth and suspense will be set aside in favor of action, as players will have to deal with hordes of enemies and utilize a variety of weapons, upgrades, abilities, and suits.

Additionally, there will be different classes of monsters, ranging from very basic ones to boss-like enemies, such as the Berserker, which will be harder to defeat.

In addition to these dangers, it was also revealed that there will be rivals who will make the player's life miserable, such as Don (the Custodian), Sark (the Prisoner), and Ida (the Cook), who will occasionally appear in games, just like the player's last defeated avatar in the previous game.

Is Striking Distance Studios Working on a New The Callisto Protocol?

It's important to mention that Project Birdseye is far from being ready; in fact, it doesn't have a release date or window yet. Striking Distance Studios' intention is to ask fans for their opinion on this project.

Another thing to consider is that Project Birdseye is not the only game that Striking Distance Studios is developing, as it's a project being developed in parallel to their next AAA game, without offering details about it.

"Last year, a small group of us started working on an exciting project that was born from our obsession with easy-to-learn and play but fun-to-master roguelikes," explained the studio. "We love the world we created for The Callisto Protocol and want to continue playing in that universe, and Black Iron Prison is the perfect future-punk playground for the team's vision."
