Xbox Game Pass: Critically Acclaimed JRPG Won't Leave the Service

Microsoft has updated the list of games leaving the subscription program's catalog.

Xbox Game Pass has won the affection of many fans by offering a vast library of titles that can be enjoyed without any extra charge, as long as you have an active subscription. While new games arrive every week, some also depart. Fortunately, an acclaimed JRPG will stay in the service for a longer period.

March will be a busy month for subscription service users. In addition to still having the chance to try out games that arrived earlier this year, they can play the new additions coming to the catalog in the upcoming weeks, such as NBA 2K24, Lighyear Frontier, MLB The Show 24, and many more.

However, as is customary, this month will also see a couple of games leaving the library. Luckily, Microsoft updated the list and removed a JRPG much beloved by the community, meaning subscribers will have more time to try it out for free.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered will remain on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass

At the beginning of March, the company announced the games joining the service for the month and those with limited days. In the latter group, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered, the new version of the acclaimed JRPG from Bandai Namco and Level-5, was included.

According to the original announcement, the Japanese role-playing video game inspired by the works of Studio Ghibli was set to leave Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on March 15th along with two other titles. Fortunately, there was a last-minute change of plans, and it was removed from the list.

Neither Bandai Namco nor Microsoft provided the reason behind this decision, but it seems that both companies reached a new agreement to keep Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered on the service for a longer time, or its inclusion in the list was an error in the first place.

Either way, subscribers will be able to enjoy the acclaimed Japanese role-playing game "for free" for a more extended period, although it's unknown if it will eventually leave the program in the near future. In the meantime, here are the titles that will no longer be available:

  • Hardspace Shipbreaker ― March 15th
  • Shredders ― March 15th

What is Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered?

As the name suggests, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered is a remaster of the game that debuted in 2011 exclusively for PlayStation 3. This new version was released in 2019 for PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, and quickly received praise from critics and fans alike for its beautiful visual style reminiscent of Studio Ghibli works and its emotive story.

In this JRPG, fans step into the shoes of the young Oliver, who embarks on a dangerous journey to save his mother from a tragic fate. Thanks to its polished role-playing mechanics and charismatic characters, it received an average rating of 86 points on Metacritic.
