Did they cancel the multiplayer for Horizon? Fans fear for the project

The game by Guerrilla and NCSoft is part of Sony's initiative to diversify its offerings

The video game industry is debating its course, leading to the cancellation of some projects. In the case of PlayStation, it seems that the focus on in-house multiplayer and service games is not as appealing, raising concerns for ongoing developments like Horizon. Was it canceled too?

The multiplayer for Horizon is still in development, according to a reputable journalist

Amidst the wave of layoffs, cancellations, and closures announced by PlayStation, there were speculations about the possible abrupt end of the Horizon multiplayer, a project in development by NCSoft, a South Korean company, with a focus on MMORPG elements. According to reputable journalist Jason Schreier, the Horizon multiplayer is not part of the cancellations made by Sony for its business, as per his sources. Unofficially, the project is still in progress, and unless otherwise stated, Guerrilla and NCSoft could reveal details soon.

It's worth noting that this multiplayer proposal for Horizon emerged as part of Jim Ryan's initiative at PlayStation to boost online multiplayer and service games. This led Sony to strengthen ties with NCSoft in search of a title that leverages the theme of the Guerrilla franchise and provides a role-playing experience for online players.

Guerrilla Games confirmed the existence and development of the Horizon multiplayer in 2022, and in 2023, it was revealed that NCSoft was in charge of the project. However, recent changes in PlayStation's strategy seem to threaten some of these titles, but in this case, everything appears to be proceeding as planned.

While there is speculation about cancellations at PlayStation and Hermen Hulst, director of PlayStation Studios, confirmed the halt of development for some video games, the official cancellations include the multiplayer for The Last of Us and Twisted Metal.
