Before achieving success with their soulslike titles, FromSoftware secured a place in the video game industry with niche franchises such as King's Field and ARMORED CORE. The latter made a triumphant return in 2023, but could there be more in the future?
After a long absence, the science fiction series returned in August of last year with ARMORED CORE VI Fires of Rubicon, the latest installment. Fortunately, it was a success and received praise from both critics and players.
FromSoftware is currently hard at work on Shadow of the Erdtree, the first expansion for ELDEN RING. However, fans are wondering what their next big project will be. While we wait to find out, one of the studio's key creatives discussed the possibility of returning to the mecha franchise.
Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to make more ARMORED CORE games
After the revelation of the new ELDEN RING DLC, director Hidetaka Miyazaki gave interviews to the media where he talked about many topics of great interest. In a conversation with the IGN Japan portal, he expressed his desire to work on new installments of ARMORED CORE.
The Japanese creator, who was one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023 according to Time magazine, revealed in the interview that the latest title in the action franchise was a success but admitted that it was not perfect, leaving room for improvement.

"The ARMORED CORE series is very important to FromSoftware. We have a strong will to continue it in the future. I believe ARMORED CORE VI [b]was a success. On the other hand, not everything was perfect, and there is still room for improvement. So, I have no intention of stopping there," commented Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Although the director of Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and ELDEN RING is open to the possibility of creating more games in the science fiction saga, he confirms that they haven't decided on anything concrete yet. In other words, there are currently no plans for a new installment.
Certainly, there is the possibility that the franchise will return with a new sequel. This is because ARMORED CORE VI broke records for Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on Steam, demonstrating interest in the intellectual property.
Speaking of the franchise, it's worth noting that ARMORED CORE Verdict Day from 2013 will close its servers along with a classic installment of Dark Souls.
