Xbox Game Pass: Will the upcoming Call of Duty games arrive on day one?

Diablo IV will be the first game from Activision Blizzard to join the Microsoft program

Xbox Game Pass is one of the most attractive and popular gaming services, allowing players to enjoy Microsoft's first-party titles and some third-party experiences on day one. Therefore, many wonder if they will be able to play the upcoming installments of the Call of Duty franchise without any additional charge from the very beginning.

Certainly, a significant portion of the community supported Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King due to the possibility of the company's games joining the subscription service.

After the acquisition was finalized, Phil Spencer confirmed that they plan to bring Activision Blizzard games to Xbox Game Pass starting in 2024. The first title to join the catalog already has a name and release date, but fans are wondering what the future holds for Call of Duty.

Call of Duty could arrive on Xbox Game Pass on day one

As promised, Xbox hosted a special podcast where brand leaders discussed their business strategy. There, it was revealed that Starfield and Indiana Jones will remain as exclusives, but it was also disclosed that 4 titles yet to be confirmed will arrive on more platforms.

The program also brought exciting news about Xbox Game Pass and its future. Specifically, Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, confirmed that Diablo IV will be the first game from Activision Blizzard King to join the subscription service.

Additionally, Matt Booty, head of Microsoft Studios and responsible for Xbox's first-party offerings, confirmed that they will maintain their strategy and release their in-house studio games on day one.

“We think, at a first-party level, we can get back to first principles. First, all of our [Xbox Game Studios] games will be on Xbox platforms. Second, all of our games will come out on day 1 on Xbox Game Pass. And third, we know that Game Pass is only available on Xbox platforms,” commented the executive.

After the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, Call of Duty is technically a first-party intellectual property of Microsoft. Considering that Bethesda Softworks titles began to debut on day one after being acquired by Microsoft, it is not unreasonable to think that the same could happen with the warfare franchise and other ABK sagas.

However, there are still many uncertainties, and some believe that the military franchise will be the exception to the rule. Recently, an insider suggested that Call of Duty will not come to Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, Lulu Cheng Meservey, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Activision Blizzard, suggested in 2022 that the company is not interested in bringing its games to subscription services, at least during their commercial lifecycle.

At this point, it is not confirmed that the upcoming games in the franchise will join the service. Since there are many unanswered questions, it is best to wait for Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond to share more information on the matter.

But tell us, do you think the upcoming installments of the franchise will come to the service? Do you believe that only older titles will be included? Let us hear from you in the comments.
