With so many gaming options available, it is more important than ever to make a good impression from the very beginning. Unfortunately, Helldivers 2 debuted with a multitude of problems, which could impact its long-term success. Fortunately, the developers are aware and are already working on a solution.
The project developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment is now available for PC and PlayStation 5. Although it is impossible to measure its success on the next-gen console, we already know that it debuted with impressive numbers on Steam.
According to data from the SteamDB statistical site, Helldivers 2 reached 64,183 simultaneous players during its first day on the market. Additionally, it ranks on the list of best-selling games on the Valve platform, surpassing Palworld, Call of Duty, and other popular games.
Helldivers 2, exclusive to PS5 on consoles, debuts with problems
Unfortunately, controversy could overshadow this successful launch. The multiplayer game arrived on PC and PlayStation 5 with many technical issues, affecting the players' experience. It is clear that the situation is far from ideal, reflected in the ratings.
At this moment, the cooperative title has mixed reviews on Steam. Specifically, only 52% of the ratings are positive. If we look at the comments, we will find players criticizing the bugs, connectivity errors, and issues causing the game to close abruptly.
According to reports, some of these technical issues originated from the implementation of the anti-cheat software Protect GameGuard.
After the troubled launch, Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, reported on Discord that the studio is in "crisis mode." He acknowledged that the large number of players caused many unforeseen failures but promised that they are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
"I just wanted to let you all know that we are working as hard as we can to fix these issues (...) We're trying to fix it on the backend, but it looks like we will have to patch the game to solve the problem. I'm sorry, and thank you for your patience," highlighted Johan Pilestedt.
However, it seems that the controversies surrounding Helldivers 2 could persist, even if the errors and technical problems are resolved in the coming hours. Players criticized the Battle Pass, known in the game as Warbond. Specifically, they argue that it is pay-to-win because, in addition to cosmetic items, it offers weapons in premium levels.
It will be interesting to see if the PlayStation exclusive on consoles can survive this challenging stage and maintain the community's interest in the days to come.
But tell us, did you experience problems with this game? Let us know in the comments.
