Revie Studios project revisits the popular character already in the public domain

The original version of Mickey Mouse is now public domain, so creatives from all industries have used it in their projects. Revie Studios has just revealed Rubber Hose Rampage, a Cuphead style title that stars the popular Disney mouse.

The title for consoles and PC has attracted the attention of gamers not only for its resemblance to Studio MDHR's game, but also for its crazy story related to the dominance of artificial intelligence in a not too distant future.

This is Rubber Hose Rampage, Mickey Mouse game in Cuphead style

Is that you, Cuphead?
Is that you, Cuphead?

Rubber Hose Rampage is inspired by the animated short film Steamboat Willie, where the original version of Mickey Mouse made his first appearance. For that reason, Revie Studios' game looks like a cartoon from the 1920s and 1930s.

This makes it look very similar to Cuphead, only Rubber Hose Rampage is a game that shows almost all its elements in black and white. On the other hand, it is also a run and gun with boss fights. The title draws attention for another detail: its crazy story. It tells how in 2027 a group of artificial intelligence chatbots became aware and wiped out a billion people with nuclear weapons.

That's how it started a war against the machines. Now, what does Mickey Mouse have to do with all this. Well, someone sends 2 cyborgs disguised as cartoon mice to 1928. Their mission is to take out the leader of the resistance, who is none other than Steamboat Willie.

The game is in development for Xbox and PC consoles. As of this writing, there is still no confirmed release date. Below you can watch a trailer:
