With nearly 40 years behind it, Final Fantasy has thrilled fans with some of the best games in history. It's clear that the 7th installment is the favorite of many, so it's not surprising that it's getting a remake. But what about its predecessor? Could it return with a new version?

Final Fantasy VI became one of the most celebrated entries thanks to its epic story and memorable characters. With this in mind, many players hope that this 1994 title receives the same treatment as FF VII and gets an ambitious remake. Is that possible?

Producer talks about the possibility of a Final Fantasy VI remake

During a recent interview with French YouTuber Julien Chieze, producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed the possibility of bringing the story of Terra Branford and company into modernity with a new version of the classic JRPG. Once again, he emphasized that making such a project a reality would be a very difficult task.

The producer recalls that making the first 2 parts of the Final Fantasy VII remake took them around 10 years, so he believes remaking Final Fantasy VI could take double that time, meaning 20 years. One reason for this is because the game has more characters.

"If we were to remake Final Fantasy VI along the same line as the FF VII remake, it could take twice as long. The volume we would need to work on is much larger, and it has more characters as well. We would probably have to prepare many things, so I don't think it's a task for which we have the resources at the moment," commented Yoshinori Kitase.

Of course, many would not be willing to wait 20 years to enjoy a remake of this title. While it is purely speculative from the creative, fans are concerned and fear that a new version of the JRPG may never exist.

The producer of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth reiterated that some Square Enix employees want to make a remake of FF VI. Although he is happy to know that there is a lot of enthusiasm for that installment of the franchise, he refused to answer whether they will ever make a new version.

Previously, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the series creator, stated that remaking Final Fantasy VI would be much more difficult than remaking the 7th installment of the saga. The reason? The 1994 JRPG is a 2D title, so adapting the narrative and the overall experience to a 3D environment would be very complicated.

While we will have to wait to find out if this Japanese role-playing title will return with a new version, we already know that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the 7th installment remake, will arrive in stores at the end of February. Unfortunately, it is unknown when the last game that will conclude this trilogy will debut.

But tell us, would you like Final Fantasy VI to have a remake? Let us know in the comments.
