For many, it's evident that Five Nights at Freddy's is inspired by the restaurant and entertainment chain Chuck E. Cheese. Interestingly, the latter has not missed the chance to capitalize on the success of the recent movie. Well, Chuck E. and company are preparing a television contest inspired by their arcades.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Chuck E. Cheese franchise will make its way to the small screen through a show with a format similar to Squid Game: The Challenge on Netflix.
Basically, the show will use structures to replicate on a large scale some traditional arcades that could be found in the place, and players will try to earn tickets to redeem them for equally larger prizes.
The production will appeal to the nostalgia of those kids who grew up going to these establishments decades ago and still dream of mastering their arcades, according to Jo Sharon and Casey Kriley, CEOs of Magical Elves, the production company responsible for the project, known for other shows such as Top Chef, Project Runway, Sugar Rush, and more.
"The format will feature independent comedic physical challenges where pairs of 'big kids' (also known as adults) will compete in oversized arcade games, including pinball, air hockey, alley roller, and the human claw. The duo that earns the most tickets will have the chance to exchange them for prizes on the massive version of the iconic Chuck E. Cheese wall," reads the official project description (via The Hollywood Reporter).
What is Chuck E. Cheese?
In case you're not familiar with Chuck E. Cheese, it's a widely established restaurant and fast-food chain in the United States, founded in 1977 by Atari creator Nolan Bushnell. The chain has managed to continue operating all these years and even expand, with some branches in Mexico.
While the arcades of Chuck E. Cheese will be the focus of this program, it's unknown if the mascot characters or animatronics, also characteristic of these establishments, will appear in it. It's most likely not, as it was decided to take them out of service late last year, perhaps to prevent children from making any kind of comparison with the terrifying ones from the movie.
