Overnight, the video series Skibidi Toilet became a mass phenomenon. In addition to accumulating millions of views on YouTube, it led to hundreds of children dressing up as its eccentric characters for Halloween. Now, it will be under scrutiny by Russian authorities.
The Skibidi Toilet series is under investigation
According to local reports, a resident of Moscow, Russia, expressed concerns about the potential negative effects of these videos. They contacted the police and complained, alleging that the animated material, particularly popular among children, could be harmful.
The creator of Skibidi Toilet is Georgian YouTuber Andrei Gerasimov, who published the first episode on his YouTube channel in early 2023. Due to the positive response, he turned the short into a video series that narrates, in a very simple and extravagant way, the conflict between two factions.
In an interview with Dexerto, the animator confessed that he did not expect his content to go viral and reach so many people the way it did. The popularity of these videos did not go unnoticed, and Russian authorities will conduct an investigation following the citizen's complaint.
"We received an appeal from a Moscow resident about the need to block from the internet the short film-style videos of Skibidi Toilet, which have a harmful effect on children," said a police source.
According to the report, local authorities will start an investigation, and an organization employee will have to watch the 70 available episodes of the animated series to analyze its content. It's worth noting that the citizen also requested the police to investigate Andrei Gerasimov.
It is unclear whether this situation will jeopardize the viral series made with Source Filmmaker, Valve's software. The latest episode was released on January 16 and has already accumulated over 20 million views.
