Microsoft Gaming could be looking to expand the boundaries of its own video games

The year 2024 has started with strong rumors regarding a change in strategy by Microsoft Gaming that could result in the arrival of some exclusive games from its ecosystem to competing platforms such as Nintendo and Sony. Recently, the name of Hi-Fi Rush and its possible arrival on Switch ignited the hype, but now there is information indicating that another major exclusive could make the jump to PlayStation.

Journalist Stephen Totilo revealed through his newsletter Game File that Microsoft Gaming has considered launching the successful pirate multiplayer game, Sea of Thieves by Rare, on PlayStation. This information comes from a source claiming that the division is very interested in having this title debut on Sony's systems. Regarding this, the journalist mentions that his colleague Jeff Grubb also revealed information related to the release of Sea of Thieves on PlayStation, as well as on Switch, but Stephen Totilo clarifies that he has only heard that the game could come to Sony's consoles.

The possible release of some exclusives created within Xbox Game Studios on other platforms, which were part of the Xbox ecosystem for years, has been a topic of debate among the community. Some Xbox users criticized the move, fearing that the brand wouldn't have a solid offering of exclusive titles, showing that they might later be available on rival platforms. On the other hand, some are in favor, thinking that it aligns with Xbox's strategy to break down barriers and bring its games to as many players as possible.

In the case of Sea of Thieves, a move like this would not be unusual, as this multiplayer game from Rare has been a solid and consistent success on Xbox since its launch in 2018, forming a player base of millions that would only expand if it were to be released on PlayStation.

It's not as if Halo, Gears, Forza, Starfield, and other iconic Xbox titles are rumored to be released on Nintendo or Sony consoles on day one. However, if the rumored releases are confirmed, we will be witnessing an interesting decision by Xbox.

What do you think about this? Will Sea of Thieves continue to rise with a launch on PlayStation? Do you like that Xbox is making these decisions?
