Several award ceremonies recognizing the best in the video game industry for 2023 have already taken place. One more will soon be held, and it's noteworthy that Xbox has more nominees in the Game of the Year category compared to PlayStation and Nintendo.

Xbox has never been so close to winning a GOTY

Of course, the Game of the Year category couldn't be missing, where the biggest hits of the year will compete for the top award. However, what stands out is that Xbox surpassed PlayStation and Nintendo in the number of nominated games, something highly unusual.

The Japanese companies are represented by Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, respectively, while Xbox has Hi-Fi- RUSH and Starfield.

So close yet so far, Xbox has more nominees, but winning GOTY at the New York Game Awards 2024 is unlikely

However, the game that seems poised to be the big winner of the event is Baldur's Gate 3, as it received 6 nominations, precisely in the categories of Game of the Year, Best Narrative, Best World, Best Music, and Best Performance (2 nominations in this last category).

Close to Baldur's Gate 3 are Alan Wake 2 and surprisingly Cyberpunk 2077 thanks to its DLC expansion Phantom Liberty. Both received 5 nominations.
