If there's one thing that 2023 proved, it's that video game adaptations to film and TV are in a good moment. It seems that the positive trend will continue in the coming years, and the Minecraft movie is expected to be another great representative. Now, a new report reveals an actor who has just joined the cast.
The Minecraft movie has been in the plans for many years. In fact, the official premiere was expected to take place on March 4, 2022, although multiple delays and changes in creative teams postponed the release date. Fortunately, it seems that the project is finally on the right track.
According to a new report from Deadline, the production of the film inspired by the Mojang and Microsoft video game is about to begin in New Zealand. While waiting for more information, a new cast member has been announced, who, interestingly, has a lot of experience in video game adaptations.
Jack Black would portray Steve in the Minecraft movie
According to the report, Jack Black, who previously voiced Bowser in Super Mario Bros. The Movie, will participate in the live-action Minecraft movie. According to sources, he will portray Steve, the avatar players use in the sandbox title.
In addition to his participation in the animated film about Nintendo's plumber, the actor and singer is part of the cast of the Borderlands movie, where he played the lovable robot Claptrap.
Details about the plot remain a mystery, and even the screenplay credits have not been determined yet; however, we already know that Jared Hess, responsible for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, will be in the director's chair. Reports indicate that the release date is scheduled for early 2025.
The Minecraft adaptation, produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will be starred by Jason Momoa, who portrayed the superhero Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe in cinema. Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen will also appear, and in December it was announced that Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair in the series Wednesday, joined the cast in an unspecified role.
But tell us, are you excited about this movie? Do you think it will meet expectations? Let us know in the comments.
