It's clear that Call of Duty is a money-making machine. Even its weakest installment in years managed to overshadow major releases in 2023, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. With this in mind, it's not surprising that there are already plans for the title that will arrive in 2025.
Since the release of the latest title can still be seen in the rearview mirror, official details of the 2024 installment remain a mystery. However, a report by Jez Corden, a journalist from Windows Central, suggests that we will revisit the Gulf War in a new Black Ops.
As the first rumors of next year's game begin to surface, another report sheds light on preliminary details of the title that will arrive in 2025. If this information is accurate, it seems that we will go back to the future.
Call of Duty 2025 will be a sequel to CoD: Black Ops 2, according to sources
The popular insider and journalist Tom Henderson, who has a track record of accuracy, published an article on the Insider Gaming portal that gathers testimonies from alleged anonymous sources familiar with the development of the 2025 installment of the Activision franchise.
According to the report, multiple sources indicate that the Call of Duty of 2025 will be a direct sequel to CoD: Black Ops II, a title that debuted over 10 years ago and is considered by many as one of the best in the series. It is said to be set in 2030, 5 years after the events of the second part.
A previous rumor indicated that the game would have remastered maps from the 2012 installment. While it seems that is still the plan, one source claimed it will also include new scenarios. Apparently, the change is a response to the poor reception of CoD: Modern Warfare III and its reused arenas from CoD: MW2 from 2009.
The report mentions that the "Pick 10" system for creating classes in multiplayer will return, the Gunfight game mode will be available, movement will undergo changes, and the zombie mode will be round-based, as in the original releases.
Since the release of Call of Duty in 2025 is far away, many ideas are still on the planning table. In any case, this information lacks official confirmation. We recommend taking the information with a grain of salt and waiting for Activision to share the first details of its flagship franchise's upcoming releases.
In an interview a few months ago on the 25th anniversary of the intellectual property, Rob Kostich, president of Activision, ]admitted that plans are already in place for releases until 2027.
But tell us, would you like the game to be a sequel to Black Ops 2? Let us know in the comments.
