Jonathan Majors found guilty of assault and harassment; Marvel fires him, and Kang role uncertain

The MCU future now remains in the air

The 34-year-old American actor, Jonathan Majors, has been declared guilty of assault and third-degree reckless harassment. He could face up to a year in prison, and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is now uncertain.

On March 25, 2023, Jonathan Majors called 911 to report finding his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari, unconscious in his apartment. Following the discovery of apparent injuries, such as a fractured finger and a laceration behind the ear, authorities arrested the Hollywood star on suspicion of domestic violence.

This Monday, December 18, after months of legal proceedings with evidence and witnesses presented by both parties, a jury of six people found the actor guilty of harassment and third-degree reckless assault.

According to the report, the sentencing will be announced on February 6, 2024. Jonathan Majors faced a total of four charges. He was acquitted of intentional third-degree assault and second-degree aggravated harassment against his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. He could potentially face a year in prison.

"Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, friends, and fans for their love and support during these heartbreaking eight months. He still has faith in the process and hopes to completely clear his name," said Priya Chaudhry, the actor's lawyer.

Marvel fires Jonathan Majors, Kang in the MCU

Before authorities arrested him in March 2023, Jonathan Majors was set to be a key player in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After portraying the villain Kang the Conqueror in Disney+'s Loki, he reprised the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the second season of the show starring Tom Hiddleston.

The verdict on December 18 has already had consequences for the actor's professional career. According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, a representative from Marvel Studios confirmed that they will distance themselves from Jonathan Majors and move forward without him.

The actor was supposed to be the main antagonist in the upcoming major MCU saga. It is unclear whether the studio will replace him with another celebrity or alter its plans to introduce a new villain. According to reports, Avengers: The Kang Dystany has changed its name to simply Avengers 5.
