The cancellation of a game is almost always bad news not only for gamers, but also for the creatives who worked on it. Recently, Naughty Dog stopped the development of The Last of Us Online, so several members of the studio lamented the news and talked about how engaging the project was going to be.

Devs claim The Last of Us Online was great

Naughty Dog explained that it will distance itself from games-as-a-service, which made many of its fans who want more single-player titles feel relieved. Even though we know that some developers weren't entirely happy with the project either, there are some creatives at the studio who lamented the cancellation of The Last of Us Online.

One of them was designer Karl Morley, who stated that the title was very entertaining. On social networks he commented that he "had more fun playing this game than any other [multiplayer] game." He also stated that he learned a lot and regretted the cancellation.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Ferguson, also a designer, said that working on The Last of Us Online has been one of the highlights of his career. For such a reason, he will always remember the project fondly. "Absolutely been the highlight of my career, and will always be a very special project for me," he said.

Dialogue director Kat McNally also gave her testimony. From her perspective, the game's cancellation was lousy news. For that reason, she took the opportunity to highlight all the work her team did for the game that will never see the light of day.

“It’s never easy to have a game canceled, but I’m so proud of my studio and everything we accomplished on this project, big shoutout to my combat QA and dialogue teams,” McNally commented.

Fans of the franchise reacted to these comments from the developers. Some gamers further lamented the cancellation of the project, believing it had promise, especially from Morley's words, who emphasized the fun side of the multiplayer.
