Now more than ever, the importance of preservation in the video game industry is clear. This subject becomes relevant every time news breaks that a game will no longer be sold and will become inaccessible, even for those who purchased it. The list grows year by year, and now it's confirmed that a Ubisoft game will be delisted from all platforms.

According to reports, The Crew, a driving title that implemented multiplayer elements reminiscent of MMO games, ceased to be sold on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as on Ubisoft's store. People who never purchased it lost the opportunity to do so.

THE CREW HAS STOPPED SELLING, WHEN WILL ITS SERVERS SHUT DOWN?

All editions of the video game and its additional content are no longer available for purchase, as stated on the Steam page.

“We understand this may be disappointing for players still enjoying the game, but it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing constraints. Decommissioning a game, and especially our first one, is not something we take lightly”, said Ubisoft.

Players who acquired The Crew will be able to play until March 31, 2024. After that date, the servers will shut down definitively, making it impossible to access or participate in any of the game modes. It's worth noting that this title received strong criticism for requiring a constant internet connection.

Although a significant portion of the user base shifted to the sequels, the first installment still maintains a community. According to Steam Charts data, there was a peak of 37 simultaneous players in the last 24 hours. Naturally, the fan base is upset by the news.

"Oh, Ivory Tower. Without a blog post announcement or anything. Great, thank you. Stealthy closures never end well," commented a player in the review section. "Always online games should die when a single-player mode is included. After March 2024, everyone who bought it won't be able to play it, and that's a scam," said another.

WHAT IS THE CREW?

The Crew is a multiplayer driving game with a significant emphasis on social interaction. Players could explore a vast open world and engage in activities to earn rewards, such as new cars and upgrades.

This title developed by Ubisoft Ivory Tower debuted in 2014 and received mixed reviews from both the press and players. Currently, it holds an average score of 61 on Metacritic.
