While console generations are still discussed, the truth is that technology is advancing faster than ever. As hardware updates and specifications on PC continue to progress, the gap between the two platforms widens over time. It's no secret that the current generation, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, has fallen short of its performance promise, and perhaps a mid-generation release would be the solution, as seen with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. In Sony's case, this step is on the verge of confirmation.
Sony expects information about the PS5 Pro to leak soon
The rumored existence of the PlayStation 5 Pro has gained traction in recent months, and it seems that all unofficial information will culminate soon. According to Tom Henderson, a journalist from Insider-Gaming and one of the industry's most reliable sources, we are very close to learning about the PS5 Pro and its specifications. This was revealed in a Twitter post where the journalist shared information from internal sources at Sony, assuring that details of the new console will be revealed soon.
PlayStation Studios, as well as major companies, already have the PS5 Pro
Regarding this, Tom Henderson states, "I can't comment on other people's leaks because I don't know. Internally, Sony expects the complete specifications to leak this month due to the developer kit distribution to third-party studios."
In that sense, a report from TweakTown mentions that Sony has already covered the distribution of PS5 Pro development kits to all PlayStation Studios teams, and currently, major companies like Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Ubisoft already have the hardware in their hands in this pre-commercial release version.
Both reports agree that the flow of information between Sony, publishers, and studios will result in leaks that could become public in a matter of days, revealing the specifications of the PS5 Pro, a more powerful variant of the current PS5 that would bring Sony's console in line with the hardware demands of upcoming AAA games and potentially meet the public's performance expectations.
Currently, the PS5 has received a design update in the form of the PS5 Slim, with no significant changes to its internals but a reduction in volume compared to the original model. It seems the next step is to offer a more powerful option, similar to what happened with the PS4 Pro, for players seeking higher standards in terms of frame rates and resolution.
