Promising to be an ambitious post-apocalyptic survival MMO, The Day Before immediately caught attention upon its original announcement. However, accusations of scams and plagiarism raised concerns within the community. After a long wait, it is now available, and the reception is far from ideal.
After changing its release date multiple times and temporarily disappearing from Steam due to a trademark dispute, the title by FNTASTIC and Mytona Fntastic debuted on December 7 in early access format. Interested players can purchase it for $409.99 MXN.
As expected, this survival proposal arrived on the Valve platform shrouded in controversy. Within a few hours of its release, it already has nearly 5000 negative reviews. What went wrong?
The Day Before received harsh criticism at its debut
Unfortunately, there are many reasons why The Day Before received unfavorable reviews at its debut. To start, players report difficulties accessing servers, technical issues preventing progress in the game, and bugs disrupting the experience.
Reports also mention connection problems, errors causing the title to crash, and interface bugs. Certainly, such inconveniences were expected at the launch, especially considering it's an early access release.
However, the major complaint points to the core of the experience. The Day Before is promoted as an MMO. Now that it's available, players claim that it is actually an extraction FPS with some semi-open areas, rather than a massive multiplayer game.
"This is not an open-world MMO; it's a small area extraction FPS (…) The city is dead, and there are barely any open buildings. There are no survival elements in the game because it's an extraction FPS, like Tarkov. It's a shame because it could have been the next Day Z," commented a user on Steam.
"This game is a scam. There are no open-world survival elements. It's just a bad extraction FPS. The combat is terrible; I went on a 'raid' and fought another player... it was slow and completely unsatisfying," said another person.
Despite numerous complaints from the community, The Day Before is still categorized as an MMO. Fntastic refrained from commenting on technical issues and complaints about the lack of survival elements but acknowledged on social media that there is an overload on North American servers.
This multiplayer game is expected to remain in early access for around 6 to 8 months, although that could change. The developer explains that they will address the errors and balance the experience during that period.
