The community claims that abandoning this Modern Warfare game mode is "the worst decision"

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III debuted amidst controversy but managed to break records. Its life cycle will soon begin with the launch of Season 1; however, fans have expressed their anger over a significant change that will affect one of the community's favorite game modes.

Through a post on its official blog, Activision detailed all the new features coming to CoD: Modern Warfare III and CoD: Warzone in the coming weeks as part of the first season of additional content. Unfortunately, this was the space where some bad news was shared.

Big changes are coming to Call of Duty's DMZ mode

The third installment of this new trilogy is known for including almost all the content from the 2022 title, including skins, cosmetic items, and other elements like maps. Therefore, fans still hoped that the free DMZ mode would remain one of the key components of the experience. Unfortunately, that will not be the case.

In the announcement, Activision confirmed that the DMZ mode, which was a pillar of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, will no longer receive support with the integration of CoD: Warzone and the new installment. Although it will still be playable, it will have significant restrictions that will undoubtedly discourage many.

The company confirms that the extraction mode will be available through the Call of Duty Warzone section in the main menu. Players will still be able to enjoy all the current content, including the maps Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, Koschei Complex, Building 21, and Vondel, as well as existing missions.

Starting from Season 1, DMZ will no longer interact directly with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty Warzone. This means that progress in this game mode will not be reflected in the new Battle Passes or player levels. Additionally, the new content from the Battle Pass and the store will not transfer to this mode.

Activision acknowledges that the end of cross-progression can be frustrating for players. Certainly, the community is not thrilled.

"Abandoning DMZ is the worst decision. It was the best game mode in CoD I have ever seen. I spent more money on DMZ than on any Call of Duty game in the last 5 years. I won't spend a penny on MW3," commented one player. "DMZ was the best thing to happen to Call of Duty since the launch of Warzone," said another.

This decision is perceived as a natural step. The new zombie mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III incorporates many features of the DMZ mode, such as the open map, contracts, and loot extraction. Thus, it seems like an evolution of the concept.

But tell us, what do you think of this change? Are you disappointed with the end of the DMZ mode? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.
