Mortal Kombat players exploit glitch to obtain skins without paying

Content from previous game seasons shouldn't be accessible for free, but there's a workaround

The monetization of Mortal Kombat 1 is one of its most controversial elements, and players have not hesitated to speak out, now drawing attention for taking advantage of an exploit in the game that allows them to acquire paid content without spending a single penny.

The game adds new content through seasons, including limited-time skins, such as those originally available for free as part of unlocks in the Invasions mode in Season 1. Once that season concludes, the items would no longer be available, and players would have to wait for that season to return in the future—or purchase them in the Premium Store with Dragon Krystals, the in-game currency acquired with real money.

Error in Mortal Kombat 1 provides access to paid items for free

Well, users have found an exploit that essentially involves changing the date on the console or system. By doing so, they manage to "time travel" and restore a previous event, including the limited-time store and its items.

This way, players can participate in Invasions mode and acquire the once-free content from the limited store. Once done, they only need to set the system back to the current date and enjoy the unlocked skins, which remain on their accounts.

As reported by user iScreamFGC, the exploit works if you set any date prior to November 6 on the system.

Another user, AdmirableEstimate258, reported that when he changed the date and completed his first Invasions, he unlocked all skins on the Table. Although he confirmed that returning to the correct date retained all the skins, he warned that the game prevents progress on other Tables.

Should you take advantage of Mortal Kombat 1 exploit or will it cause issues?

It goes without saying that we do not recommend trying this exploit, as while it is a NetherRealm Studios error, players could be violating a user agreement clause, and the company may well ban them from online play or, in the more lenient scenario, remove the skins obtained through this method.

Naturally, it is expected that NetherRealm Studios will prepare an emergency patch to fix this exploit, as a fundamental part of selling this cosmetic content is FOMO (fear of missing out). However, at this time, the company has not addressed the issue.
