PlayStation suffers another blow: delays 6 of its games for this reason

Despite problems, the company will not completely change its strategy

PlayStation Studios has ambitious plans to move into games as a service. Along with Bungie, various development teams were working on more than 12 such productions that were supposed to arrive before March 2026.

However, PlayStation is going through a difficult time and decided to make a major change in its strategy. Because of this, it delayed half of its games as a service. So, for now it will focus only on 6 titles of those it promised.

PlayStation changes its strategy and delays 6 games as a service

Hiroki Totoki, Sony's chief operating officer and chief financial officer, confirmed this morning that they will significantly adjust their plans to bet on games as a service. The goal is for their releases to be titles that appeal to gamers and remain active for years to come.

For this reason, they will take additional time to develop 6 of the 12 promised titles. According to reports, this could be due to the review process that Sony and Bungie did on the various projects. Apparently, some of them have not met the standards expected by the Destiny studio.

"We are reviewing this… we are trying as much as possible to ensure [these games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time,” he said. “[Of] the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 – that’s our current plan. [As for] the remaining six titles, we are still working on that," the executive said.

Totoki reiterated that they will continue with their plans to push games as a service and multiplayer-focused titles. He emphasized that PlayStation will not limit itself to developing only one type of game and that, in the end, quality is most important to them.

For now, it is unclear which games will be delayed and which will debut first. The company has in hand the multiplayer of The Last of Us, a similar project set in the universe of Horizon, Fairgame$, Marathon, among other productions.

According to various reports, the focus on games as a service has led to conflicts and various problems within PlayStation Studios. The current crisis and some of the layoffs are said to be due to this project.
