Insomniac Games discusses who will be the main character in the future

Since its release, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has received a multitude of praise from players and critics. While far from perfect, its story is endearing, and the ending hints at the direction future installments may take. Precisely, Insomniac Games suggested that a character will take center stage from now on.

Before we proceed, it's important to note that we will share significant spoilers from this open-world video game. We recommend stopping reading if you don't want to spoil any campaign surprises.

For the first time, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 allowed us to step into the shoes of both Spider-Men, although it's undeniable that the story focuses more on Peter Parker's issues. That said, in the final moments, there's a hint that Miles Morales will take the lead in the future.

Will Miles Morales be the protagonist of Marvel's Spider-Man 3?

At the end of the story, Miles Morales tells his arachnid partner to be "Peter Parker for a while" while he takes care of the city. Is this a hint that the Puerto Rican hero will be the "main" Spider-Man in the upcoming installments?

In an interview with Gizmodo, director of narrative Ben Arfmann and writer Brittney Morris were questioned about the possibility of Miles Morales taking on the lead role, especially considering the ending of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

"It always felt very natural and I think we all collectively thought it would happen. To me, it shows a great evolution for Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. In the end, he shouldered the responsibility of saving the city and also shouldered Pete when he wasn't strong enough to stand on his own at several points," answered Brittney Morris.

The narrative director complements the response and ensures that they wanted to have that moment where Peter Parker hands over the reins from the beginning. "And as we developed it and began to set more clues about it, it felt better and better," he commented.

However, Ben Arfmann claims he doesn't know when they will decide to make the change, so it's unclear if the next installment, a hypothetical Marvel's Spider-Man 3, will feature Miles Morales as the protagonist.

These statements are interesting, and fans have already theorized about what might come. It's possible that Miles Morales will take on the leading role while Peter Parker plays a supporting character. That said, nothing is confirmed, and we will have to wait to discover the future of the franchise.
