Several leaks about the PlayStation 5 Slim surfaced this week. One in particular worried and disappointed gamers awaiting its debut, as it relates to one of the console's most important new features: the removable disk drive.
Images of a bundle of the console are circulating in social networks, so gamers analyzed every detail of its box and discovered something that did not please them: it will be necessary to have an Internet connection to pair and configure the removable disk drive to a console.
PS5 Slim feature and disc drive cause controversy
Leaks reveal that the PlayStation 5 Slim will have a bundle with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the next installment of the saga that will debut in November. This did not surprise gamers at all, but it did catch their attention due to the fact that the saga is already on Xbox.
Despite this, there is another detail that really set everyone's alarm bells ringing. On the back of the box it is specified that an Internet connection will be required to start using a removable disk drive. Once again, the issue of digital rights management (DRM) and preservation were put on the table.
Some players fear that the disk drive verification process will fail due to problems or server shutdowns. Others simply resent the idea of having to verify such an important console add-on.
For many users, the problem is not having an Internet connection, but that this is a prerequisite to start using their console with a removable disk drive. Additionally, other gamers were upset as Sony has not fully detailed how such a drive will work and did not reveal this leaked detail in the official announcement.
