Who is Hiroki Totoki, the new interim head of PlayStation?

Just a few hours ago, Jim Ryan, head of PlayStation, announced his departure as the leader of the brand and as the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony released an official statement informing of Jim Ryan's departure as president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, as well as the fact that his successor, at least on an interim basis, will be Hiroki Totoki, who served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer. This move will happen in 2 parts: first, Jim Ryan will step down as president of SIE in the coming October, and in the same month, Hiroki Totoki will assume the position. Then, in March 2024, Jim Ryan will step down as the CEO of SIE, and Hiroki Totoki will take the reins.

Who is Hiroki Totoki, the new head of PlayStation?

Hiroki Totoki, who will be the new face in charge of SIE and PlayStation from October, was born in Yamaguchi, Japan, on July 17, 1964. He joined Sony Corporation in April 1987, where he held various minor positions until 2002 when he was appointed representative director of Sony Bank. His career continued to rise from 2005 to 2012, leading Sony Network Communications, Inc. In 2014, he was appointed president and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications.

In the subsequent years, he held various positions at Sony Corporation, including executive vice president, executive director, and chief financial officer. In 2019, he even served as the director of Sony Corporation. Starting in a few days, Hiroki Totoki will be in charge of Sony's electronics entertainment division, where PlayStation resides, and this will be the case for the next few months while the company decides whether there will be continuity or if a new head of the division and a new face of PlayStation will be appointed.
