The series The Last of Us exceeded expectations and quickly became one of the most successful TV programs of 2023, surprising many fans. Season 2 is already a reality, but its production had to go on an indefinite pause. Fortunately, it seems it could soon resume.
After the impressive success of the first set of episodes, HBO authorized the making of a second season. Unfortunately, the writers' strike by the WGA caused this and other projects to come to a halt as writers and Hollywood studios try to reach an agreement.
Fortunately, this battle seems to be reaching a favorable conclusion. According to the latest reports, a tentative agreement has been reached among the involved parties. The deal is provisional, and formal wording is still pending, but it's good news, and the strike could end soon.
Awaiting more information, Craig Mazin, showrunner, and writer of the live-action series The Last of Us, reacted to the latest developments and shared encouraging news that undoubtedly thrilled fans of the Naughty Dog and PlayStation franchise.
Season 2 of The Last of Us could resume activities soon
The prestigious producer, who also worked on the acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl, turned to his personal Threads account to comment on the latest strike news. He stated that he hopes to work on the video game adaptation as soon as possible.
"I am very proud of the WGA and its members, and very excited to get back to work on Season 2 of The Last of Us. The strike is not officially over yet, but as soon as it is, we'll get into action!" said the American creative.
In a subsequent post, Craig Mazin clarified his thoughts to avoid misunderstandings. Specifically, he stated that by "getting into action," he refers to the writing process, so the filming of the new season is still far off. "I hope to have an update on the start of filming soon," concluded the showrunner.
With a bit of luck, the strike will end with a positive agreement for the writers. If that happens, the TV show could resume its activities very soon. A few months ago, Craig Mazin confirmed that he finished writing the first episode before production had to stop.
What will Season 2 of The Last of Us be about?
Details about the plot we will see in the new set of HBO episodes remain a mystery, but Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann hinted that they will adapt at least a part of The Last of Us: Part II, Naughty Dog's controversial video game that debuted in 2020.
In an interview, Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie in the TV show, stated that Season 2 will be darker. With this in mind, it's possible that Abby Anderson, one of the most controversial characters from the second game, will have a significant role in the new episodes.
