Those in charge of the project want to cover all the manga chapters

Given the poor results of other Netflix live-action adaptations, many were skeptical of the One Piece series, but fortunately, the project was successful. Now, fans want it to continue and wonder how many seasons it will have; the good news is that the producers have an encouraging answer.

Season 1 of One Piece consists of only 8 episodes, covering a significant portion of the East Blue story arc, so there is still much to tell, considering that the manga has over 1000 chapters.

The series could very well have multiple seasons to tackle this immense story, and producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements suggest that the project will continue and is intended for the long term.

Does a post-credits scene in One Piece confirm Season 2?

Adelstein hopes the series will have 12 seasons to cover all the content from the manga. Meanwhile, Clements mentions that along with producer Matt Owens, they have a "creative plan" in mind for the future, which (without getting into spoilers) can be confirmed by the post-credits scene in Season 1.

"The end of the season naturally leads them to the next chapter of the manga, that's what [the post-credits scene] indicates. That was the idea. We wanted to give fans a taste, something they would recognize as a sign of where we're going. That was very deliberate, and something we added after filming because we wanted to indicate that we have a creative plan that we thought fans would enjoy," Clements expressed in an interview with Deadline.

Clements mentions 12 seasons, but even if it were only 6, the producer would be content with that and mentions that they would only use half of the manga chapters: "It can go on and on."

Despite these plans, the exact number of seasons for the adaptation is still uncertain. However, Clements confessed that those responsible for the franchise Shueisha and Eiichiro Oda, as well as everyone involved at Netflix, have discussed a possible Season 2 and even Seasons 3 to 6.

"The one thing I can say is that we all agree on the parts of the manga that you simply can't omit, and that's our main guide, the stories and characters that we know are important to the fans. So that's the starting point for planning future seasons. It will take a lot of conversations, but we feel fortunate to have the roadmap," the creative expressed.
