Nintendo could be bringing back a Mario and Donkey Kong puzzle series

The rumored September Nintendo Direct has not yet taken place or even been announced, but it's already generating a lot of buzz thanks to an insider who is hinting that the presentation will be full of surprises. One of them will be the return of a puzzle series starring Mario and Donkey Kong that originated during the Game Boy Advance era.

Days ago, the informant Pyoro_X shared an image on Twitter showing Donkey Kong in the scene from the Super Mario movie, leading many to think that Nintendo would announce a new game for the character, perhaps a new Donkey Kong Country.

However, this weekend, the informant took to Twitter again to provide more clues, and thanks to them, it is believed that the game in question would be from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong subseries.

This belief arises because Pyoro_X provided a bit more context for the clip, mentioning that "you see who [Mario] is, but you never see who he's fighting against." Later, a user asked if the "Minis" would appear, to which the informant replied with "yes," making it quite clear that the game he is talking about is one of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games.

In case you didn't know, this subseries is of the puzzle genre, and it doesn't involve controlling Mario or Donkey Kong but rather their Minis, which are wind-up toy versions of Mario. Players must guide these Minis through levels using their commands. By the way, the setting chosen in the clip is very similar to the girders found in Mario vs. Donkey Kong levels, with the last installment being Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge in 2016.

With all of the above explained, the hints make sense. Although Pyoro_X has been a very reliable source in the past, it's worth remembering to take this as a possibility and not a confirmation to avoid disappointment if the prediction turns out to be incorrect. We will keep you informed.
