Pokémon GO is still an incredibly popular game, but it's true that the hype isn't the same as it was a few years ago. This means that some passionate and active communities have now become desolate. One player wanted their local Pokémon GO community to regain its passion, and that's why they decided to upset other users of the app.
Recently, the Reddit user u/Fabolous-Ring-6389 shared an interesting story on the Pokémon GO subreddit. It turns out that about a month ago, they decided to revive the enthusiasm for the iOS and Android game in their town.
How did they do it? By obsessively taking control of all the gyms in their community. It turns out their town was full of members from Team Mystic, while they belonged to Team Instinct. So, they decided to take down the "blue stronghold" and do everything in their power to grab the attention of other players.
"About a month ago, I decided to go crazy with gym control. Basically, every time someone captured a gym, I would hop on my bike and reclaim it immediately. My town is basically a blue fortress, and as the only Team Instinct player, it was an uphill battle. But I had something others didn't: a lot of free time and caffeine," said the Reddit user.
Their plan bore fruit, and what was once a lethargic community turned into an active group of players competing for gyms. According to the player, the number of Pokémon GO users in their community doubled, and they believe it was because some individuals convinced family and friends to return. Furthermore, they pointed out that their rivals decided to memorize their sleep patterns and triangulate their home to surpass them and regain control.
So, what's the secret to reviving a Pokémon GO community? For u/Fabolous-Ring-6389, it's clear: "If your community lacks activity, mess with their coins."
