Performers seek better working conditions and protection from AI

The strike by actors and writers in the United States is not over; in fact, it is slowly growing. Soon, this fight for the labor rights of creative professionals in the United States could extend to the video game industry.

It turns out that SAG-AFTRA, the union representing actors in the United States, has initiated a vote among its members. They want to see if actors working in video games are interested in joining the strike as negotiations with video game companies are approaching.

"Here we go again! Now our Interactive (Video Game) Agreement is at a stalemate too," SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher said in a press release. "Once again we are facing employer greed and disrespect. Once again artificial intelligence is putting our members in jeopardy of reducing their opportunity to work. And once again, SAG-AFTRA is standing up to tyranny on behalf of its members."

Negotiations between the union and video game companies such as Activision, Electronic Arts, Disney, Insomniac Games, Epic Games, and Take Two will commence on September 26th. Below is the list of all the companies mentioned in the document:

  • Activision Productions Inc.
  • Blindlight LLC.
  • Disney Character Voices Inc.
  • Electronic Arts Productions Inc.
  • Epic Games, Inc.
  • Formosa Interactive LLC.
  • Insomniac Games Inc.
  • Take Two Productions Inc.
  • VoiceWorks Productions Inc.
  • Warner Bros Games Inc.

Actors participating in video game productions are seeking the same benefit increases as actors in television and film. Additionally, they are seeking labor protection from artificial intelligence, as well as mandatory 5-minute breaks for every hour of work.
