Destiny 2: Fans Preorder and Then Refund The Final Shape to Get a Weapon

Some community members believe the new rifle is pay-to-win

Destiny 2 is a beloved game, but that doesn't prevent it from stirring up controversy. Now, some members of the community are preordering an expansion to obtain a pre-order weapon, and once they receive it, they cancel their pre-order.

As reported by Eurogamer, rumors recently began circulating that Destiny 2 fans were preordering The Final Shape for a single reason: to obtain the code that grants access to an exotic fusion rifle. Thus, once they received the code to claim the weapon, they would cancel their preorder or request a refund.

These rumors reached Lucky10P, a Destiny 2 content creator, who questioned his fans about whether this was true. Many of his followers confirmed that they were indeed doing it and even retained the weapon after canceling.

"I do not encourage doing this. But I was curious if it was really happening," said Lucky10P.

This phenomenon is attracting a lot of attention, especially because some people still can't believe that it's really possible. That said, this isn't the first time something like this has happened, as many players did the same to acquire the Quicksilver Storm Exotic that came with copies of Lightfall.

It's worth mentioning that this new weapon has caused discontent within the community. This is due to the belief that it's too powerful and therefore shouldn't be offered until the release of The Final Shape. This has led some to accuse the game of being pay-to-win.

What's your opinion on this? Do you think Bungie will take measures to prevent this or should they simply provide the rifle to everyone? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Remember that The Final Shape, its new expansion, will arrive on February 27th.
