Forza Motorsport will arrive this year as a release that harnesses the full power of the new generation. One aspect that has drawn a lot of attention to this racing game is that, unlike previous installations, it doesn't carry a number in the title. What's the reason behind this? Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has already explained it.
In a conversation with IGN during gamescom 2023, Spencer clarified that there's a motive behind the new Forza Motorsport not being called Forza Motorsport 8. It turns out that this new release is conceived as a "service platform," so it was necessary to avoid it appearing as a numbered installment.
The executive also mentioned that he doesn't particularly like labeling Forza Motorsport as a service because there's a lot of "weight" associated with that word's meaning. Therefore, what this signifies is that it will be the game that Forza Motorsport fans will play for years.
"And it's like, no, we want this to be a place that people feel like they can invest their time, they can invest their experience, and know that this is a place that we're going to be investing in Forza Motorsport for years to come", Spencer said
In other words, Forza Motorsport is a game designed to receive multiple updates and innovations for fans to enjoy over the years. In theory, this means we won't see a new Forza Motorsport for several years, although plans can always change.
