In its almost 30-year history, Tomb Raider has managed to gather a large fan base and become one of the most important franchises in the gaming industry. It's been quite a while since Lara Croft embarked on her last adventure, and it appears she's preparing for her return.

In 2022, Crystal Dynamics announced that a new installment of the saga is in the works. Details about the project remain scarce, but we do know that it's being developed on Unreal Engine 5. In early 2023, more information emerged, revealing that it will be a multiplatform release and that Amazon is involved.

The announcement of the new Tomb Raider could happen this year

The official website of the franchise has been updated and now asks fans to register with their email addresses. Those who do so will be the first to receive "the latest news related to the Tomb Raider franchise." The announcement suggests that there will be information about "rewards, exclusive products, merchandise, releases, and more."

Of course, the word that excites the most is "releases." Perhaps Crystal Dynamics is already setting the stage for the official announcement of the new installment and the first details to be revealed. However, there's still a possibility that it might be a simple update and that the text on the website doesn't necessarily imply that the revelation is imminent.

User Miller Ross, who previously revealed accurate information about Marvel's Avengers, mentioned a few months ago that the studio would unveil the next chapter of the Tomb Raider saga in 2023. As the year comes closer to its end, the announcement might be getting closer.

The next gaming event is Gamescom 2023, which will open its doors on August 22 with its traditional Opening Night Live. Could we possibly learn about Lara Croft's new adventure there? We'll have to wait to find out, but it's recommended to keep expectations in check.
