Embracer Group CEO, Lars Wingefors, talked about the performance of the zombie game.

Dead Island 2[/url], the sequel to the popular 2011 zombie title, was first announced way back in 2014. Certainly, its development was far from a walk in the park. After a series of studio changes and delays, it finally debuted in early 2023. Despite the delay, it was a success and is now paving the way to "another platform."

During the latest quarterly earnings call, Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, discussed the commercial performance of the zombie video game.

Dead Island 2 will arrive on "another platform" next year

According to the information, [i]Dead Island 2 "far exceeded" initial expectations at its launch and shipped one million copies in its first 3 days on the market. The following month, it reached 2 million units sold, making it the biggest debut in Deep Silver's history.

Now, the goal is to maintain the momentum and fuel sales with new additional content.

"I think Dead Island 2 had a very strong launch window, and then we've seen a more normal performance, in line with expectations. What we're expecting now, obviously, are promotions, but above all the addition of new content. That's why there's a significant amount of content coming this year, which would improve base game sales as well," stated Lars Wingefors.

During the investor meeting, the Embracer Group executive revealed that the first-person video game will have a release on "another platform" sometime next year. He hopes that this initiative will also boost sales.

Against all odds, Dead Island 2 saw the light of day

Since Lars Wingefors didn't share more details about this, it's difficult to know which platform he is referring to. The first option, and perhaps the most likely, is that Dead Island 2 will leave its exclusivity with the Epic Games Store and arrive on Steam. The second option is that it will debut on the Nintendo Switch or its rumored successor, which, according to reports, might hit stores in the second half of 2024.

But tell us, on which platform do you think the game will arrive? Let us hear from you in the comments.

Dead Island 2 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Epic Games Store).
