The end of an era: Xbox 360 store will close; this will happen to your content

In a few months it will no longer be possible to purchase games and DLC from the console store

The end of an era is near, as Microsoft announced this morning that it will close the Xbox 360 store in the middle of next year. Through a press release, the company informed that the time will come when it will no longer be possible to purchase digital content for the console.

It also explained what will happen to all the games and other content that Xbox 360 users have purchased over the years. You should not worry, because your purchases will be safe and you will be able to continue accessing your titles to enjoy them even in the company of your friends.

The Xbox 360 store's days are numbered

The Xbox 360 will be 18 years old in a few months, so Microsoft believes it's time to close an important part of its incredible era. Mark your calendar, because as of July 29, 2024 it will no longer be possible to buy new games, DLC or any other content from the console's store.

From that day on, the store will no longer be accessible from the console or through the marketplace.xbox.com site. On the other hand, the Movies and TV application will stop working on Xbox 360, so it will no longer be possible to enjoy such multimedia content from the device.

While the end of the store arrives, those interested will be able to continue acquiring content normally. Microsoft also stressed that users will still be able to enjoy all their Xbox 360 games and DLC they have purchased over the years, even after the shutdown.

In addition, all content will be backed up, so it will be possible to download content at any time to enjoy on Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox X|S Series.

What will happen to online play and backward compatible titles?

The company explained that the closure of the store will not impact the multiplayer modes of the titles, as long as the developers continue to support them. In addition, it will still be possible to use cloud saves to retrieve games in the future and on other systems.

On the other hand, Xbox 360 backward-compatible games will also remain unaffected. Before and after July 29, 2024, such titles will still be available for purchase on newer consoles. Microsoft explained that it is committed to preservation, so it will keep all such games current.
