Following the success of Illumination, Universal Pictures, and Nintendo's animated film, the original Super Mario Bros. movie has experienced a considerable resurgence in popularity. In addition to increased sales on Amazon, fans have gathered on social media to defend and remember the movie.
On the other hand, John Leguizamo, who portrayed Luigi in the live-action film, criticized The Super Mario Bros. Movie for its lack of inclusion. Specifically, he lamented the absence of a Latino actor and openly expressed his intention to boycott the project.
