Street Fighter and TEKKEN are 2 of the most important fighting game franchises in the world, so thousands of fans cheered when a crossover was announced in 2010. The final result arrived in 2012 and generated mixed opinions, although the community still wanted to enjoy another collaboration. Could it be possible?

Although fans have already resigned themselves and believe that TEKKEN x Street Fighter will never see the light of day, a small glimmer of hope appeared during EVO 2023. In the end, it was just a joke that pleased all those present, but at the same time reopened the wound.

Before the final of the Bandai Namco fighting title, Katsuhiro Harada and producer Michael Murray took the stage. There, they shared the trailer for Raven and Azucena, the new characters that will join the 8th installment of the franchise.

Immediately after, a surprise guest appeared on stage: Yoshinori Ono, former producer of Street Fighter who led multiple projects during his time at Capcom until 2020. Of course, the presence of the veteran surprised all attendees and EVO 2023 viewers.

Yoshinori Ono spoke with Katsuhiro Harada and said they had “homework”, and proceeded to mention the anticipated TEKKEN x Street Fighter. At that moment, the Bandai Namco creatives interrupted him and "kicked" him from the stage. Without a doubt, a very amusing scene that demonstrates the camaraderie that exists in the FGC (Fighting Game Community).

Is TEKKEN x Street Fighter still alive?

While Street Fighter x TEKKEN was unable to captivate the fighting game community due to various creative decisions and controversies, fans still eagerly await for TEKKEN x Street Fighter. That said, what happened to the project?

In 2021, Katsuhiro Harada stated that the crossover is still in the works, but it won't debut anytime soon. "We still hope that TKxSF will resume its development when the opportunity arises; however, this title cannot move forward solely for the convenience of a company in terms of marketing and brand, and it also affects the development resources of each one," he said.
