For decades, Metroid fans have received titles sparingly since the franchise of Samus Aran is not a product with impressive sales. However, its releases carry all the passion that the community can expect and mostly result in great experiences recognized by critics, and in the case at hand, historic sales as well.
Metroid Dread shines with million-selling numbers
During an interview with Gamereactor, Enric Álvarez, the CEO of Spanish studio MercurySteam, revealed that Metroid Dread has already sold over 3 million copies, a milestone for the franchise, as no previous entry had reached that mark. The statement came in response to rumors about the supposed "chaotic" development process the game underwent: "I don't think the development was chaotic. Chaotic development doesn't end up with one of the best games in the franchise. It doesn't end up with a game that has sold over 3 million copies. It doesn't end up with a game that won TGA awards. That's all I have to say about that."
How much have the Metroid entries sold?
Metroid Dread is now the most successful game in the franchise's history, achieving sales levels rarely seen, some of which date back to the first release on NES in the 1980s. It's worth noting that officially, the latest sales cutoff for Metroid Dread indicates 2.9 million copies, but it is expected that MercurySteam has more up-to-date information.
