The project aims to revolutionize the genre with more options

Project L is the mysterious fighting game that Riot Games, the studio known for VALORANT and League of Legends, has been working on for years. If you've been waiting for more details, you'll be glad to know that the company has finally decided to share new information about the project.

According to Riot Games, Project L aims to offer something new in the world of fighting games. That's why one of its main game modes is to provide 2v2 battles, but not in the traditional sense of games like Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ. Riot Games' idea is to have each team member controlled by a different player.

"Project L isn't just a character-switching fighting game; it's a 2v2 team-based fighting game. This means that teams of 2 players can fight in the same match, each controlling a unique champion. So, we're building a game where you can play both with and against your friends," said Tom Cannon, the project's producer.

According to Riot Games, Project L is designed to promote team strategies and will work like a tag-team wrestling match. While one player fights, the other will be waiting outside, ready to enter and participate in the combat. This creates opportunities for saving your teammate, executing combos together, and finding various ways to enjoy the game as a duo.

It's worth mentioning that Project L will also feature 1v1, 2v2, and even 2v1 fights. Moreover, players who prefer to play solo can do so by controlling both characters. Thus, there will be several options to create exciting matches.

"Whatever your setup, our systems are designed to feel fluid and rewarding for players on and off the screen, and that starts even before you jump into a match. Before the match starts, each team can customize how their champions play together using what we call the Fuse system. With Fuse, you can choose powerful synergies that change the playstyle of your duos and allow players' expression to shine," stated Cannon.

Project L will be playable at EVO 2023

Excited to play Project L? You'll be pleased to know that many people will get to try it out soon. A Project L demo will be available at EVO 2023, the most important fighting game event of the year. It's worth mentioning that in this event, players will be able to control a character that hasn't been confirmed yet.
