NoClip has begun its campaign to preserve video material from gaming history

Big gaming companies have not been immune to embarrassing moments at major events, and many of these moments have become part of gaming history in the digital era. One of these moments is the PlayStation E3 2006 presentation, known for the repercussions it had and for how Sony squandered all the success it had achieved with PlayStation and PlayStation 2. While the event is well-known material, you can now relive it in high definition.

The infamous E3 2006 PlayStation presentation in glorious 1080p

Earlier, we told you about the initiative of the video game documentary specialist group NoClip, which decided to take action against Google's threats to close user accounts and YouTube channels due to lack of use, aiming to preserve audiovisual material that reflects the history of gaming. The project is in full swing, and one of its significant releases is the PlayStation E3 2006 presentation in 1080p, which is now available on the dedicated YouTube channel for this initiative.

Kaz Hirai, Ridge Racer, a jab at Xbox, and the worst PS3 price, all in one event

The Sony presentation at E3 2006 was full of infamous moments. First, Kaz Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, presented the PlayStation Portable and started a game on this console. However, the game took a while to load, and an awkward silence filled the room until it finally reached the loading screen, displaying Ridge Racer. Despite Kaz Hirai's attempt to present it with enthusiasm, nobody seemed excited, and he had to repeat the name of the game, this time shouting, to elicit some reaction from the audience, but it was minimal.

Then, in a display of arrogance, Kaz Hirai stated at the event that the new generation of consoles would only begin when Sony said so, and that would be with the PlayStation 3. This was a thinly veiled jab at Microsoft, which had launched the Xbox 360 a year earlier, gaining a head start in the market.

Finally, the executive sealed the fate of the PlayStation E3 2006 presentation by announcing that the PlayStation 3 would debut on November 17 of that year in America, and its 60 GB version would cost $599 USD, a higher price than the Xbox 360.
