It seems that the physical format is on its way out, much to the disappointment of video game collectors. A new sign of this trend is that a major UK supermarket has made the decision to stop offering physical video games.

According to information from Gamesindustry.biz, Tesco, one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK, has decided to no longer offer physical video games. This change will apply to its more than 2,800 stores across the region.

Once the current stock of physical video games in stores is sold out, Tesco will no longer allocate space for this type of product. Instead, customers will see digital gift cards that can be used to purchase games on the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, or Nintendo eShop.

According to the retailer, this decision was made because their customers now prefer "digital entertainment."

It's worth mentioning that this is not the only blow to the physical format in the region. GameStop recently closed all 38 of its stores in Ireland. As a result, consumers have fewer options for purchasing physical video games.
