"We're disappointed", Microsoft lashes out at FTC appeal

Regulator does not give up on its attempt to block Activision Blizzard buyout

The legal battle between Microsoft and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is not over, as the regulator is determined to block the purchase of Activision Blizzard. So it resorted to its appeal to show its disagreement with the verdict of Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley.

Of course, Microsoft is already aware of this. The company was disappointed in the FTC's insistence on blocking the settlement. Its president, Brad Smith, lashed out at the U.S. regulator and its plans in recent statements.

Microsoft criticizes FTC for appealing authorities' verdict

U.S. authorities gave the green light to the purchase of Activision Blizzard earlier this week, as they dismissed the FTC's arguments to block the acquisition. However, the regulator has not given up and has already started its appeal, so the process may take even longer.

Smith was baffled, because the authorities did not put more obstacles to the agreement since they know that the purchase will be beneficial for consumers. For this reason, he affirmed that the company is disappointed with the FTC's move. He also assured that they will do their best to overcome this new barrier.

"The District Court's ruling makes crystal clear that this acquisition is good for both competition and consumers. We're disappointed that the FTC is continuing to pursue what has become a demonstrably weak case, and we will oppose further efforts to delay the ability to move forward," said the Microsoft executive.

Lulu Cheng Meservey, an Activision Blizzard executive, was somewhat unconcerned about the FTC's appeal. She is confident that they have everything they need to support their position and the authorities' decision.

"The facts haven't changed. We're confident the US will remain among the 39 countries where the merger can close. We look forward to demonstrating the strength of our case in court - again," said Cheng.
