The creative has reportedly shown remorse for his illegal actions

As we informed you a few days ago, Yuji Naka, the main creator of Sonic, was sentenced to over 2 years in prison. However, in the end, the creative will not go to jail.

After Naka's lawyers requested a less severe sentence for him and the possibility of not going to jail, Judge Madoka Hiruta granted the requests.

The final verdict, as we informed you, was 2.5 years in prison and a fine of approximately $1.2 million USD for Naka for using insider information from Square Enix projects to illicitly enrich himself. However, the judge granted a suspended sentence for 4 years.

Yuji Naka will avoid jail

This means that Naka will not set foot in jail, but the charge will remain active for the next 4 years. If the creative wants to avoid prison, he not only has to pay the hefty fine but must also refrain from engaging in any illegal activities during that period. Otherwise, the penalty will take effect, and he will have to serve the 2 years and 6 months of the criminal sentence in jail.

This decision was reached not only because ]Naka admitted to the charges against him, but also because he ultimately "showed remorse" (via Jiji Press). It should be noted that the monetary fine was added precisely because he had previously shown no signs of remorse. Given these circumstances, the judge deemed the suspension of the prison sentence to be appropriate in the final verdict.
