Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic, sentenced to years in prison

The creative will have to serve a several-year sentence and pay a hefty fine

In November 2022, a sad legal episode began in the history of Sonic's creator, Yuji Naka, after being found guilty of using confidential information from Square Enix projects to sell stocks and generate profits. Today, the episode received its final verdict, which will lead the creative to prison.

Last month, a sentence was handed down to Yuji Naka for using confidential information to enrich himself. The sentence was 2.5 years in prison and a hefty fine. However, Naka's legal team appealed the decision in an attempt to reduce the fine and suspend the prison sentence.

How long will Yuji Naka spend in jail?

The attempt, however, was not successful, so Naka will have to spend 2 years and 6 months in prison, as reported by Twitter user yoshinokentarou (via gosokkyu).

Afterward, Naka will be on probation for 4 years and will have to pay the two hefty fines of ¥2 MJPY and ¥170 MJPY (approximately $1.2 million).

Yuji Naka is 57 years old, so he should be released from prison at the age of 60, and it is expected that he will serve the entire sentence until 2030, when he turns 64.
