YouTube Only Allows You to Watch 3 Videos If You Use an Ad Blocker in a New Test

Google continues its war against Adblock and similar tools

YouTube generates revenue through the ads displayed on its site and before each video. That's why the use of ad blockers is not welcomed at all. That's why YouTube has started taking measures, and in a new experiment, it only allows you to watch 3 videos if you use tools like Adblock or similar ones.

Users on the r/YouTube subreddit reported finding a new test on YouTube. In this test, Google's platform is aiming to reduce the use of ad blockers by penalizing people who utilize such tools.

But how does it do it? By limiting YouTube sessions to only 3 videos. In other words, if you have Adblock or a similar tool, you can only watch 3 videos. Afterward, the video player will be blocked, and you'll have 2 options: subscribe to YouTube Premium or disable your ad blocker on YouTube.

"It looks like you might be using an ad blocker. The video playback will be blocked unless YouTube is on an approved list or the ad blocker is disabled," states the message that has appeared to some users. "Ads enable YouTube to be free for billions of users worldwide."

It's worth mentioning that a spokesperson from The Verge confirmed to YouTube that they are conducting a "small global experiment" where they ask users with ad blockers to disable them or subscribe to YouTube Premium.

"We take disabling video playback very seriously and will only do so if visits continue to ignore the constant requests to allow ads on YouTube," they explained.

What do you think of this measure? What do you believe is the best way for YouTube to combat ad blockers? Let us know in the comments.
