The whole world has its eyes on Titan, the submarine that disappeared while descending to the bottom of the sea to see the remains of the Titanic. The location of the underwater vehicle is a mystery, and reports indicate that the next few hours will be crucial to rescue the crew. In the midst of this unfortunate situation, an indie game saw a significant increase in sales.

As interest in this case exponentially grew on social media due to exposure in the news and media, the independent video game Iron Lung experienced a considerable surge in its commercial performance. This was confirmed by the developer in charge of the project.

Iron Lung is an indie horror title where players assume the role of a pilot who dives into the depths of the sea in a claustrophobic submarine to take photographs and investigate, all while facing an imminent danger in the water. It offers a brief experience of psychological horror and survival.

Dev laments his game being more popular after the Titan submarine incident

This independent title debuted in March 2022 and received very positive ratings from players and specialized critics. However, it was this week, precisely when the Titan submarine incident went viral, that it experienced a significant increase in sales.

Developer David Szymanski shared a graph showing that Iron Lung saw a spike in popularity in recent days. However, he states that this situation "feels very wrong."

"I definitely see the dark humor in this whole Titanic submarine thing. It's just that... I made Iron Lung the scariest thing I could think of, so knowing that there are real people in that situation right now is pretty awful, even if it was due to their own bad decisions. All the jokes I've seen are hilarious. But my god, no one should have to die like that," the developer stated on Twitter.

Undoubtedly, the recent success of this psychological horror video game is directly related to the unfortunate event of Titan, the submarine that remains lost at sea. In the reviews section, many users made reference to the real-life incident.

This is not the first time that a real-life incident has impacted the commercial performance and popularity of a video game. In 2020, just when the pandemic reached its peak of infections, the video game Plague Inc. gained a lot of recognition, and Steam temporarily removed it from the platform.

It is worth noting that Iron Lung will have a film adaptation by popular YouTuber Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach.
