Square Enix has just re-released a game ruined by microtransactions in order to save it

The new version gets rid of all microtransactions to deliver a better experience

At the beginning of 2022, Square Enix released Chocobo GP, an entertaining kart game that sadly was ruined by having a lot of microtransactions. Just over a year after its release, Square Enix decided to save this title by re-releasing it without microtransactions.

Without warning, Square Enix released a new version of Chocobo GP on the Nintendo Switch eShop on June 13th. It is worth mentioning that this is not a simple update, but a complete re-launch since even the release date on the eShop was modified.

But what changes can we expect? Firstly, we have that all games-as-a-service elements were removed. That is to say, there are no more microtransactions, season passes, or anything similar. Even those who own paid versions of the game indicate that all content was unlocked automatically.

On the other hand, users who had the free-to-play version of Chocobo GP have the option to buy the game to keep their progress and all their content. It is worth mentioning that the fee is the same as the price for the full version. In other words, there is no saving or any type of compensation for having played this version.

So far, Square Enix has not explained why it made this decision with Chocobo GP. That being said, it is most likely due to the fact that the game stopped receiving support and they no longer plan to monetize it in this way. Thus, it is a way of giving it a second life as a product better connected to the interests of fans.

And you, will you give this new version of Chocobo GP a chance? Let us know in the comments.

Chocobo GP has been available for the Nintendo Switch since the beginning of last year.
